Is there evidence of Noah's flood?

Is there physical evidence of a global, or local, flood as it is described in the bible (Noah's Flood)? If there is evidence for or against, please save irrational or ignorant statements for another question, and point me to your sources, so I can look into them. the evidence should be consistent with the flood story, or it should be inconsistent with it. Which is it?

Yes, there is. I did a research paper on this topic a few years ago. You should look up what is known as the Black Sea Deluge Theory

The article that I had to read was this: http://www.geo.edu.ro/sgr/mod/downloads/…

here are some links that talk about similar things in general terms:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sea_d…
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/…
http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs/416…

When I did my research I also found a few interesting youtube videos such as:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT5QH1tLP…

There are many opposing views to the flooding of the black sea, and scientific data supports neither to the full extent.

  • There is no evidence at all for a global flood and plenty of evidence against it. Two items alone show the flood did not happen. The first of these is the ice in Antarctica. The ice has been building there for more than 250,000 years and there is no evidence of flooding in all that time. All Antarctic ice is from wind-borne deposition of snow and ice crystals.

The second clue is lake varves. Lake varves are annual deposits on the beds of lakes. They include organic material such as pollens and leaves shed by deciduous trees. They show the yearly seasonal cycles and gan be measured quite precisely. One site has 40million varves. That's 40million years without a global flood.

There are many, many more such indicators - corals, caves etc. And we haven't even looked at the impossibility of having all those animals on the Ark and getting them back to their appropriate places afterwards. Creationist websites ignore science and try to explain all science in terms of the flood and get themselves into a tremendous pickle when they try.

  • Yes, there are many evidences of a global Flood such as fossils of sea creatures at the tops of the tallest mountains in the world, large fossil deposits with some covering hundreds of square miles or more, most ancient cultures on earth have stories of a large Flood with many similarities to the Biblical account, sedimentary deposits all over the world and some deposits cover entire continents, polystrate fossils, an Australian government astronomer named George Dodwell observed many ancient astronomical measurements which indicated an axis tilt of the earth around 2350 BC coinciding with the Flood event, etc...

Some people assert the Biblical flood was just a local event but that is not what is described in the Bible. The Bible states in many passages in both Old and New Testaments that the Flood covered the entire earth and destroyed all land based creatures and people...anything that breathed air through their nostrils...not insects that breathe through their bodies or shells which could have survived on floating debris. Noah and his family were the only survivors of mankind. God also promised that He would never send another similiar flood which would be untrue since there have been many local floods since then.

"Changing Axis Tilt. George F. Dodwell served as the Government Astronomer for South Australia from 1909 to 1952. In the mid-1930s, he became interested in past changes in the tilt of the earth’s axis. He collected almost 100 astronomical measurements made over a 4,000-year period. Those measurements show that the tilt of the earth’s axis smoothly decayed from 25º10' to its present value of 23º27'. Based on the shape of the decay curve, Dodwell estimated that this axis shift began in about the year 2345 B.C.30

The gravitational forces of the Sun, Moon and planets do change the tilt of the earth’s axis, but much more slowly than those Dodwell measured. An extraterrestrial body striking the earth would provide an abrupt change in axis orientation, not the smooth changes Dodwell measured. Also, only a massive and fast asteroid striking the earth at a favorable angle would tilt the axis this much. However, the resulting pressure pulse would pass through the entire atmosphere and quickly kill most air-breathing animals—a recent extinction without evidence."

Edit: The claim that Antartica has layers of ice and snow which are millions of years old is also in question. Ancient maps like the Piri Reis and others show the Antartic land mass before it was covered in ice/snow within human history. Varves are also claimed to have formed over millions of years of deposition but fossils found in them show they were deposited rather quickly....and a lack of erosion.
" Varves are extremely thin layers (typically 0.004 inch or 0.1 mm), which evolutionists claim are laid down annually in lakes. By counting varves, evolutionists believe that time can be measured. The Green River Formation of Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah, a classic varve region, contains billions of flattened, paper-thin, fossilized fish; thousands were buried and fossilized in the act of swallowing other fish. [See Figure 7 on page 11.] Obviously, burial was sudden. Fish, lying on the bottom of a lake for years, would decay or disintegrate long before enough varves could bury them.

Also, varves are too uniform, show almost no erosion, and are deposited over wider areas than where streams enter lakes—where most lake deposits occur. Liquefaction best explains these varves."
